Core Graduate Attributes at VU
The introduction of Core Graduate Attributes ( CGAs) across VU has the potential to make a significant difference to the experience of our graduates both in finding employment and in becoming lifelong learners. It can also be an interesting and challenging new way for academic staff to look at curriculum throughout their courses.
The policy is based on five attributes. A VU graduate:
-
is an effective problem solver in a range of settings, including professional practice
-
can locate, evaluate, manage and use information effectively (including "critical thinking", ICT and statistical skills)
-
communicates effectively as a professional and as a citizen
-
can work both autonomously and collaboratively as a professional
-
can work effectively in settings of social and cultural diversity
This site is intended to provide information and assistance to VU staff involved in the CGA process. It includes an overview of VU's CGA policy and its implementation, as well as resources for use in thinking about CGAs in general, in mapping curriculum and in rethinking assessment tasks as we try to develop CGAs more effectively in our courses. The Frequently Asked Questions are based on discussions with staff across all faculties, and cover issues concerning the VU approach to this initiative, the process of course mapping and general learning and teaching aspects.
