Carrick Fellowship Scheme

The aim of the Carrick Fellowship Scheme is to advance learning and teaching in higher education by supporting leading educators to undertake strategic, high profile fellowship activities in areas that support the Mission of the Institute.

Fellows will be expected to have the educational expertise and leadership skills to undertake initiatives and activities around:
  • Advancing teaching and learning in higher education
  • Identifying and addressing issues in the higher education system
  • Stimulating strategic change in higher education institutions
  • Raising the profile and prestige of teaching and learning in higher education
  • Developing national and international partnerships
  • Foster national and international collaboration and knowledge sharing.

There are two categories of Fellowship, Senior Fellowship and Associate Fellowship. In addition, under special circumstances a Carrick Visiting Fellowship may be available to invited international scholars. Senior Fellowship Program

In 2008 four Senior Fellowships are available to outstanding scholars in their fields. Senior Fellows are expected to establish a collaborative team of internationally recognised scholars to achieve the intended outcomes.

Maximum Funding available - $330,000
Duration of Fellowship - 1 year

Associate Fellowship Program

In 2008 ten Associate Fellowships are available to individuals, or partnerships, to address an identified learning and teaching issues within their institution or discipline.

Maximum Funding available - $90,000
Duration of Fellowship - 1 year

Nomination and Selection

Nomination procedures and forms, supported by the individual’s institution, are available with the Guidelines document. (pdf download)

Selection criteria include:
  • The academic record and professional standing of the nominee
  • The significance of the educational issues to be addressed
  • The originality and viability of the proposed activities
  • The breadth and depth of impact of the outcomes (in relation to the funding sought)

Nominations were due 8th February for this year’s Fellowship Program (May 2008 – 2009), and suitable candidates are encouraged to consider planning for applications for the 2009-2010 Fellowship Program.
