This award recognises Mr Williamson’s contribution to the youth re-engagement program in the Department of Arts, VCE and Preparatory Programs. Mr Williamson brought a highly experiential approach to this program, using a variety of teaching methods including learning plans, student/staff council meetings and class and community activities.

This Citation recognises Deborah Tyler’s contribution to the teaching of sociology. Reflecting her commitment to the concept of learning as a collaborative activity, she has developed an approach to teaching which combines practices such as peer learning, study groups and small group tasks that has class groups function as “learning communities”. Recently she has extended this approach into the online environment by combining with face-to-face collaboration online collaboration using WebCT.

This Citation recognises the contributions of Dr Dennis Hemphill to the ongoing development of curricula in the fields of exercise science, human movement and physical education. Dr Hemphill has been a strong advocate of more inclusive curricula. During his tenure as coordinator of the Human Movement Course he oversaw the most substantial redesign of the course since its inception, more professionally relevant and identifiable career streams in exercise and sport science, fitness industry, health, sport management and socio-cultural studies.

This Award recognises Mr Abousher’s contribution to the design and teaching of programs in finance and accounting that are particularly oriented to preparing students for working in the real world. This Citation recognises Mr Batiste’s contribution to the MARA Project. This complex and ground-breaking project reconnected the staff of Victoria University’s TAFE Division with the shipbuilding industry after a break of more than twenty years. Mr Batiste coordinated resource development, oversaw course accreditation and coordinated a fellowship program in marine engineering. Top achieve the goals of the project, Mr Batiste brought together a disparate teaching team from across a range of disciplines and led this team in the development of eighty-five high quality training packs and achieving accreditation of two advanced diplomas.

This team Citation recognises the work of the multimedia team in the Information Technology Department of the School of Human Services, Science and Technology. The three staff whose work is being acknowledged by this Citation bring to their teaching the same collaborative skills that they seek to develop in their students. They have developed a project-based program that goes beyond simply enabling students to achieve technical mastery of multimedia software tools, but rather seeks to development them as practising professionals about to enter the multimedia industry.
