Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Excellence 2005

Ms Sue Marshall

School of Business , Hospitality and Personal Services

Winner:

Vice-Chancellor's Citation for Teaching Excellence within the School of Business , Hospitality and Personal Services

This award recognises Sue Marshall's distinguished contribution to teaching in the Department of Administrative and Legal Studies and her role as manager of projects such as OSCAR (Online Student Courses and Resources Centre) and the review and restructure of the School's FlexEd Program.

These roles involved activities such as surveying student and teacher attitudes and needs, developing learning resources and implementing team-teaching and have enabled Sue to enhance her teaching practice.

Sue has implemented the use of individual learning contracts for students so that they can develop the critical self-reflection skills that are necessary for life long learning and to ensure that learning is work integrated.

In 2004, Sue was appointed manager of the Courts Administration Program. This innovative program required her to develop a highly collaborative relationship with the Courts so that Cert IV in Government (Court Services) could be delivered for the first time in Australia and an accompanying course to educate workplace trainers and assessors could be implemented.

Sue has played a major role in the establishment of the National Committee for Court Education, which will act as the peak industry body for Courts in the VET sector.
