Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. I often hear colleagues talking about 'continuous improvement mechanisms'. What does this actually mean for me as a teacher?
Continuous improvement is a quality philosophy that assumes further improvements are always possible and that processes should be continuously re-evaluated and improvements implemented. For a teacher the best way to do this is through teaching and unit evaluations.
2. Increasingly, I'm being asked to demonstrate the quality of learning and teaching that occurs in the classroom - whether it be a lecture theatre, a tutorial, a classroom, a laboratory or workplace. How am I supposed to do this?
The most powerful and practical way to achieve quality at this level is to undertake systematic feedback from students. Such feedback provides information to the teacher about on what, how much, and how well students are learning. This in turn leads to modification of teaching strategies so that student learning is enhanced. Many teachers want to know what quality means to them.
3. What can I do about quality? What does it mean to me?
The linked site provides resources for teaching staff that wish to explore how they can improve the quality of teaching and learning within the resources of the classroom. Specifically, it provides information about how to develop systematic approaches to getting feedback from students.
4. What is the PDRI cycle?
It is a cycle of activities characterized by planning, doing, reviewing and improving the activities we undertake at the University.
5. I'm really fabulous at what I do. Do I have to worry about all this?
This policy underpins everything we do at the University. It applies to all staff, academic, teaching, administrative and support areas.
