General Staff Development Fund
The General Staff Development Fund is available to all members of General Staff (i.e. staff with an HEW classification) to support professional development activities that fall outside normal departmental budgets.
The fund also provides funding for HEW staff (at level 9 and above) taking advantage of the Special Studies Program.
Many types of professional development activities have been supported by the fund. For individuals these include attendance at conferences, seminars, training programs and courses and study tours. For groups these include the development of inhouse activities such as workshops or guest speakers on topics/issues not directly related to core business.
For individuals the support is normally for 50% of the total cost of the activity to a maximum of $2000. For groups it is 50% up to a maximum of $3000 with consideration of up to 100% with a maximum of $5000 for activities that apply to general staff across the University.
Applications must have support from the applicant's head of unit.
Applications must be made on the General Staff Development Fund application form , which is available for downloading.
Applications should indicate previous successful applications in the last 2 years and include a brief report of the activities if not already provided.
Applications must be received by the Staff Career & Professional Development Unit well in advance of the activity with an absolute minimum of two weeks before the activity.
Claims for payment must be made within 6 weeks of completing the approved activity.
A brief report of the completed activity is required and must be received before payment can be made.
Only one application per person per year will be considered.
