WORKSHOP - UNISKILLS Summer 2007
| UniSkills Summer 2007 English and Academic Skills
All programs are FREE to enrolled students of Victoria University and are designed for students enrolled in degree courses. |
1.New Students' University Skills Program -
Room E319/320, Building E, Level 3, Footscray Park Campus 9.30am – 3.00pm
An introduction to VU, with particular emphasis on academic skills such as academic writing, taking notes in lectures, participating in tutorials, organising your time, and an overview of academic writing styles. Suitable for new undergraduate degree students.

1.Continuing Students' University Skills Program -
Room E304/5, Building E, Level 3, Footscray Park Campus 9.30am – 3.00pm
A full day workshop on academic writing for students who have already begun university studies. Suitable for continuing undergraduate students, new postgrad students and continuing postgrad students. The day will answer questions including:
- How can I get better marks for my essays?
- What's the difference between essays, reports, case studies and short answer questions?
- Do I really need to plan?
- How do I include both the reading and my own opinions?
- What should be in introductions and conclusions?
- What's the correct way to reference?

3. Dealing with Common Writing Problems
Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd February 2007---(Computer Lab Room K458, Building K, Level 4, Footscray Park Campus) 9.30am – 12.00noon
These two sessions deal with the more quickly fixable problems that can spoil the clarity of a students writing in assessment tasks.
4. Intensive English Program
Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd February 2007---(Computer Lab Room K458, Building K, Level 4, Footscray Park Campus) 12.30pm – 3.00pm
Advanced grammar for students who speak English as a second language. There will be both group and individual assistance, and the program will also introduce you to web sites that you can use to improve your own English language grammar. Specific topics to be covered include: |

- Simple and complex sentences
