Leadership and Management Development Strategy
Transforming the way the VU community values, practices, develops and acknowledges leadership is the foundation for the VU Leadership and Management Development Strategy 2008 – 2010. It is set against the backdrop of Making VU 2016: A Statement of Purpose and will be instrumental in fostering a workplace culture and planning environment that supports leadership excellence. Providing guidance to professional development initiatives in the workplace and through programmatic responses, the strategy is a commitment to supporting leaders to achieve excellence.
The VU Leadership and Management Development Strategy aims to:
- build a leadership model that strives for excellence;
- articulate the behaviours and capabilities required of those in leadership roles;
- recognise and reward excellence in leadership and management practice;
strengthen individual leadership capabilities;
- enhance VU’s collective leadership capability (ie. management of change);
support leaders to engage in continuous learning around leadership, management and governance practice; and,
- build the capacity of VU to identify and develop the next generation of leaders.
The overarching framework for the leadership development strategy demonstrates that a systematic approach will be taken to ensure we have a consistent and congruent approach:
