The annual Learning Matters Symposium was different this year!
This was because we wanted to acknowledge the different learning and teaching cultures within the university,
and that teaching and learning appears in different guises depending on the discipline culture and the field
of practice that we are preparing learners for.
As a result, each university faculty a 3 hour timeslot in which to promote conversations about learning and
teaching amongst their colleagues. Our university faculties are large and complex, so these events aimed to
encourage staff within them to become familiar with the diversity of learning and teaching approaches that
faculties support.
In addition, the program held a number of events that aimed to encourage staff from across the university to
engage in conversations about key issues. The events were lectures and forums addressing issues such as
developing approaches to sustainability in the curriculum; developing trades pedagogies; the teaching/research
nexus; developing our learning and teaching culture; developing cultural competence; supporting sessional
teaching and researching Making VU.
We had over 400 university staff attend the various events held during the week.
This website will contain resources for teachers. Videos of lectures, and notes from conversations and forums
will progressively be placed on this website.
