2011 Learning and Teaching Innovation Grants

Improving learning and teaching are fundamental activities at Victoria University. The processes we engage in for improving these learning and teaching activities may vary, but all require systematic evaluation and dissemination of results.

VU staff with direct responsibility for conducting, researching and supporting learning and teaching activities are invited to submit an application for educational development grants that facilitate improved practice in learning and teaching.

In 2011 the Learning and Teaching Innovation Grants Guidelines have been modified to reflect work undertaken to sharpen the focus of the scheme. Its strategic intent is to stimulate change in learning and teaching at VU through innovation in pedagogy and curriculum. The scheme operates out of a developmental framework which aims to build staff capabilities in planning and evaluating innovations that have an impact on student learning outcomes. Accordingly, the timelines for the scheme include a substantial planning period which occurs after the announcement of grant recipients and before the implementation phase.

There is no limit to the number of grant applications that a Faculty/Area can submit. Grants are selected on a merit basis, so there is no need for Faculties/Areas to prioritise applications prior to submission.

VU encourages grant applications that address issues and that advance improvements in one or more learning and teaching priority areas.

In all, we received 60 applications addressing this year's criteria and allocated funding to 19 projects. The process of selection was very competitive. Applicants who were unsuccessful are encouraged to apply in the next round.
