Preparing students for LiWC

Preparing students for their Learning in the Workplace and Community (LiWC) activities forms a vital component of VU's approach to LiWC.

Student preparation can take many forms and will necessarily depend on the discipline and types of LiWC activities as well as the student cohort involved. Generally students require some kind of orientation to the types of workplaces or communities they may be engaged with as well as some preparation for the style of learning and assessment they can expect.

Online preparation program

To assist staff to prepare students for LiWC, VU has adapted a LiWC online preparation program from a Flinders University program to reflect the breadth and flexibility of LiWC activities at VU.

VU's LiWC online preparation program consists of five modules:

• Module 1: Getting to know more about organisations
• Module 2: Preparing and planning for your LiWC activity
• Module 3: Negotiating the workplace culture
• Module 4: Learning in workplace contexts
• Module 5: Reflecting on your LiWC activity

Each of the five modules consist of material to guide students, accompanied by research and reflective activities designed so students can prepare for LiWC experiences.

Teacher's guide to LiWC online preparation program
The Teacher's Guide is available for VU teaching staff and provides some advice about how the resources can be used or adapted for use in different contexts.
