Diploma of Vocational Education and Training Practice

This course is designed for TAFE teachers principally concerned with the delivery of Vocational Education and Training (VET) who are keen to enhance their capacities in:

  • Teaching and assessing across a range of VET-related contexts
  • Facilitating new insights and problem solving techniques
  • Managing the learning process to facilitate change and action
  • Undertaking effective self-assessment as a teacher/trainer in a VET environment
  • Researching teaching methodologies and relevant theoretical knowledge

To access this course you must have:

Assessment

Core subjects are drawn from a number of different areas including designing and developing learning strategies, teaching and learning with technology and creative and critical thinking.

Course Details - Diploma of Vocational Education and Training Practice
Details on the Dip VET Practice including a list of available units of study

Assessment is primarily based around your work practice and includes performing practical tasks and a range of simulation activities, oral presentations, supervisor observation reports, case studies, research tasks, a reflective journal and discussion.

You are required to complete 50 hours of directly supervised teaching and 150 hours of other professional practice including observing the teaching practice of others.

If you are already competent in areas of the course, and have evidence of your training ability and background, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning.

  • Duration: 12 months timetabled over 2 semesters
  • Location: Newport Campus - view campus map
  • Dates: Commences 17th Feb 2010.  Timetable available as part of the information guide
  • Cost: Government funded place $1625 plus material fees of $210. Non-government funded place $5000. VET Fee Help is available. VU staff to receive funding support from their Heads of School.

Further studies

You can go on to the Graduate Certificate in Vocational Education & Training or the Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education (for university staff only) . This course is offered by Victoria University.
