Blackboard collaborate (formerly Elluminate Live!)
Elluminate Live! is now known as Blackboard Collaborate. The tool is a 'virtual classroom' which allows for staff and students to conduct online virtual classes, lectures or meetings and is built specifically for live, multi-media, many-to many collaboration.
Elluminate Live/Blackboard Collaborate allows teachers to conduct and moderate online classes or meetings, including showing slides or Powerpoint presentations, using an online whiteboard, incorporating voice and audio, multimedia sharing, desktop and application sharing, and text chat features. You can also record any sessions conducted for future reference and playback. Whether you have two participating - or two hundred - Elluminate Live! enables world-class communication, collaboration, and education that transforms teaching and learning.
Victoria University currently has a license to run both Elluminate Live! (version 10) and Blackboard Collaborate (version 11) concurrently and so can create online meeting rooms in either version. Please be aware of the change and refer to the relevant documentation below, depending on the version. Typically, rooms created prior to September 2011 will be 'Elluminate Live!' rooms and new rooms may be either Blackboard Collaborate or Elluminate Live, depending on your preference. If you are unsure, we would recommend using Blackboard Collaborate for any new online room spaces you want created.
Please note that Elluminate Plan and Elluminate Publish are still available for use in preparing your online virtual classroom spaces.
In order to use Blackboard Collaborate, you will need to request an account via ITS Service Desk servicedesk@vu.edu.au to access the Session Administration System (SAS). This system provides staff with the ability to:
- register users
- create and schedule sessions
- reload content
- invite participants
- access recorded sessions
- generate usage reports
- have a private online classroom or meeting room
There is also the option to just have a drop-in-meeting room created without an account. If wanting more information please contact ITS Service Desk or log a request via servicedesk@vu.edu.au.
