Throughout her 23 year teaching career, Ann has built considerable expertise in English language acquisition and development. More recently Ann's focus has shifted to the settlement English program for pre-literate students from new and emergent African communities.
Ann has developed a wide range of authentic course materials and tasks for students so that their language learning is based on the experiences they encounter in every day life in their new country.
The creation of a supportive, welcoming and uncritical learning environment where diversity is valued underpins student achievement. Ann has collaborated with other program leaders, forged links with relevant organisations in the region and liaised with community leaders to improve her understanding this group. As Course Co-ordinator, Ann has led the establishment of a community of practice to encourage a consultative and collaborative approach to teaching in her field.
