Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Teaching Excellence 2005

Mr Wayne Binney

Faculty of Business and Law

Winner:

Vice-Chancellor's Citation for Teaching Excellence within the Faculty of Business and Law

Wayne's strong links with industry through consultancies and a wide variety of research projects have contributed to his current industry-based teaching approach in the discipline of Marketing. His active involvement in research spans Marketing as well as teaching related research. Central to Wayne's teaching philosophy is the fostering of student-centred learning based on the Self Determination Theory.

Emphasis is placed on the development of lifelong learning skills in which the learning process is more important than the content because of the dynamic context of the subject. Wayne has adopted an integrated package within WebCT for subject delivery and assessment, a system that allows students greater opportunity to maintain control of their learning. Assessment tasks are designed so that students have to employ theoretical material to the development of marketing strategies. Systematic guidance in the form of marking guides and feedback information are provided for students and the results of regular evaluations by students reveal Wayne's commitment to continuous improvement.
