Accounting Information Systems: Writing Steps in the essay writing process

The steps below relate to writing any essay, but give advice specifically on the essay for Accounting Information Systems. Each link will take you to a printable information sheet.

Getting started: work out exactly what the lecturer is asking you to do in this essay by doing a careful Topic Analysis using the Process Words in the topic.

When you begin to understand the question, prepare a Preliminary Plan.

Use the Preliminary Plan to guide you in Finding the Information You Need.

When you have a basic understanding of the reading, prepare a Working Plan.

Use your Working Plan to prepare a first draft of the body of the essay, by Thinking Like an Accountant and Writing Good Paragraphs. Make sure you use an academic Writing Style. Avoiding Plagiarism by careful use of other writers' ideas and words is essential; in the text of your essay, try to use a variety of Reporting Verbs to refer to other writers' work.

Draft an Introduction and a Conclusion.
